Le Caldanelle - a romantic location between Siena and Maremma

Today I do not want to write about wine, but I decided to dedicate this article to a location situated in the green countryside between Siena and Maremma: Le Caldanelle di San Ansano. I made this choice because with its romantic character I am convinced that it is a perfect venue for a country or a vintage wedding, as well as for other kinds of private events. 



My impressions 

At the beginning of the last summer, I visited “Le Caldanelle” for the first time and I have suddenly been impressed by its colors and intense flavors of brooms and lavender, which flourished in that period. As soon as I left my car in the parking place, I arrived in the large garden with some tables and chairs already set up for an open-air lunch or a dinner during the sunset, as well as a funny barbecue. From the garden you will have access to the courtyard from which you arrive at the several apartments. Continuing my walking I discovered also some hidden places, which are really lovely spaces for reading a book, drinking a glass of wine or chatting with friends or parents. At the end of the path you will arrive at the most suggestive part of the holiday farm: its terrace and the swimming pool with a wonderful view of the medieval village “Pari” and of the valley “Valle della Farma”. This is the place where you can really forget the working stress or the noise of the city and where you can enjoy the silence and the flavors of the Tuscan countryside. 

While I adored this place I thought that this would be a perfect romantic location for a country chic or vintage wedding, as well as for a private event with your closest family or some friends. In fact, as I already described above, the location really offers many separate, lovely hidden spaces, which you can use during the wedding reception/where your wedding reception could take place. Moreover, for those who prefer a country themed wedding, the barbecue and an old wood stove -which is perfect for an Italian homemade pizza or fresh bread- fits perfectly in the conception. 



When I look back on these impressions of my visit and I think this location is truly perfect for a romantic wedding and at the end, for those who are interested to enjoy the Tuscan city life, both Siena and Grosseto are 30 minutes away by car and in 40 minutes you will also reach the Tuscan beaches. 

Some information about the history 

While I was talking to Anna Bernabei and her daughter Claudia, the owners of “Le Caldanelle” I learned something more about its history, which I think is also nice to know. They told me that Claudia’s grandpa Luigi Bernabei speaks often about the “Villa San Ansano” which already belonged to his mother and her family at the beginning of the twentieth century. In this time it was a small villa and farm where the farmers lived and cultivated the fields and took care of the pastures. Nowadays thanks to Anna and Claudia, it became a place where you can enjoy the silence and the charm of the Tuscan Maremma and where you can organize a cozy romantic wedding reception.

Some useful information 

As holiday house it has also 4 apartments with a total of 14 beds. Each apartment is furnished in a different style, but always in the respect of the Tuscan country-style. The outdoor spaces offer a lot to discover, considering the garden for the outdoor lunches or dinners, the barbecue zone and the wood stove. Some hidden places with small tables and chairs to use provide you some relaxing moments. As described above, of course, the panoramic view of Pari and the surrounding countryside will leave you breathless; however you are enjoying it from the swimming pool or from the terrace. From 2015 it is possible to rent the whole holiday house for private events, especially for weddings. And for those who are looking for more relaxing I can warmly recommend the “Terme di Petriolo” which is situated only some kilometers away from “Le Caldanelle”.
